It’s easy to fall into unhealthy habits during the holidays. Follow these tips for a healthy Thanksgiving from beginning to end!

Before

Start your day with some activity.

Before the feasting begins, get some movement in. Go for a walk, sign up for a Turkey Trot, or better yet get your entire family involved in a pick up game outside! If you are not able to participate, stand on the sidelines and cheer them on. Enjoy the company of family and a break from the food table.

Offer to make a side dish.

This way you are not only helping out, but you feel good knowing that there will be at least one healthy option! Vegetables are a great way to get in the Thanksgiving flavors while adding something light to the mix.

Plan ahead:

There will be a ton of delicious things to indulge on, but food starts to be less enjoyable the more full you become. What are you most excited to eat this Thanksgiving? Instead of mindless snacking focus on waiting for what you really want to eat and enjoy!

During

Load up on veggies first.

We are not saying to not have your grandma’s famous mashed potatoes, but by filling your plate with mostly veggies you can do some serious portion control on the heavier items.

Slow down.

Be present with the company and the amazing food you get to eat. Be mindful about which foods you love and which ones you could do without.

Enjoy!

It’s Thanksgiving! Do not ruin your day with guilt in the back of your mind the entire day. Instead of it being all about food remember that Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for what you have and those you are surrounded by. Celebrate!

After

Sip on some tea

Nothing is worse than an upset stomach. Your body is probably not used to eating a Thanksgiving meal every day. Sip on some stomach settling peppermint, chamomile, ginger tea.

Water water water

Slide the cocktail aside for some water. Water is important to be drinking throughout the day but can also help with post-feat digestion.

The day after

Do not be hard on yourself for what you ate the day before. It is the healthy habits you do before and after that really matter! Start your morning with some exercise and a lighter meal, maybe even some warm lemon water to boost your metabolism! Get back into your routine without the guilt!
